Overview

In 2018, CPC Committee of Wenshan Prefecture convened the 4^th Plenary Session of the 9^th Committee, at which the mining and electricity industry supported by green hydropower aluminum was identified as one of the four pillar industries in the prefecture. It is planned to integrate alumina production capacity in the surrounding areas, extend the aluminum industry chain and build the primary aluminum production line and deep aluminum alloy product production line by relying on the 500,000 tons/a hydropower aluminum project of Yunnan Wenshan Aluminum Co., Ltd. and the 900,000 tons/a hydropower aluminum project of Yunnan Shenhuo Aluminum Industry Co., Ltd. under construction. It is planned to introduce enterprises to focus on the development and production of aluminum profiles, plates and strips, aluminum profiles, plates, strips and foils for automobiles, aluminum plates, strips and foils for electronic and electrical industries, foamed aluminum, copper-aluminum composite plates and strips, medium and high-strength industrial aluminum profiles, pipes and bars, aluminum profiles for construction, aluminum profiles for high-speed railways and rail transportation, aluminum profiles for aircrafts, aluminum profiles for ships and other aluminum materials to drive the development of downstream industrial projects and enhance the added value of aluminum products.

Supporting Conditions

The project area has favorable conditions and the basic conditions for project construction are good. Funing County is located at the junction of Guangxi, Guizhou and Yunnan. It is an important passage from the southwest of China to the sea and a frontier zone open to ASEAN and is rich in coal, gold, antimony, hydroenergy, agriculture and forestry resources. It is an important base of "electric power transmission from the west to the east", a non-ferrous metal industry base and a featured agricultural product base. The construction of the project conforms to the national industrial policies. Relying on the strategy of "Guangxi Aluminum Enters Yunnan", Funing County plans to combine the mine industry with the power industry to develop the electrolytic aluminum industry at a high starting point and to develop medium and high-strength industrial aluminum profiles, pipes and bars, aluminum profiles for construction, high-speed railways and rail transportation, aircrafts and ships and other deeply processed products with high technology content and added value and promising market prospects by continuously strengthening the technological innovation and research and development so as to turn the Funing Hydropower Aluminum Integrated Industrial Demonstration Park into an ecological aluminum and aluminum deep processing demonstration area of the prefecture and the province.

Aluminum is a major metal material only second to steel in the world. Due to its physical properties such as low density, low resistivity, low melting point, good thermal conductivity and easy processing, it is widely used in many industries such as construction, packaging, transportation, mechanical equipment and electric and electrical appliances. Moreover, since aluminum is easy to recycle, it is also called "energy-storage material" and "green metal material". In 2002, the total global primary aluminum consumption was 25,198,000 tons. By 2017, the total global primary aluminum consumption had reached 63,487,000 tons. In the past 15 years, the total global primary aluminum consumption has increased by 38,288,000 tons, with an average annual growth rate of 6.4%. According to the national distribution of primary aluminum consumption, the distribution of aluminum consumption is closely related to the national population and economic development. In 2017, China, the United States, Germany, India, Japan, Korea, Turkey, Italy, Russia and Brazil were the top 10 primary aluminum consuming countries in the world. The cumulative consumption of the above 10 countries accounted for 81% of the total global consumption. It is estimated that by 2022, China's primary aluminum consumption is likely to reach 41,613,000 tons and by 2027, 46,533,000 tons. The project is technically mature, has good construction conditions, meets the requirements of national industrial policies and circular economy and has broad market prospects.

After completion of the project, it can well support the industrial layout of Shenhuo Group, realize on-site transformation of products, reduce the costs of raw materials and logistics, strengthen the industrial linkage between upstream and downstream, and maximize the profits. The project is technically mature, has good construction conditions, meets the requirements of national industrial policies and circular economy and can create good social benefits.
