Strategic Layout of Yunnan Regional Development

云南省"十三五”规划提出了"做强滇中、搞活沿边、联动廊带、多点支撑、双向开放”的发展思路，以昆明中心城区和滇中新区为核心，以滇中城市经济圈、沿边开放经济带以及参与国家"孟中印缅”和"中国-中南半岛”经济走廊建设为重点，以澜沧江开发开放和金沙江对内开放合作经济带为重要组成部分，以六个城市群为主体形态，加快构建"一核一圈两廊三带六群”全省经济社会发展空间格局。全省新的发展格局，各州市的差异化发展，为投资拓展了更大空间。
The “13^th Five-Year Plan” of Yunnan Province indicates the development idea of “Strengthening Central Yunnan, activating borders, interacting with corridor, multi-point support and two-way opening-up”. It takes the central urban area of Kunming and Central Yunnan New Area as the core; the Central Yunnan Urban Economic Circle, Open Economic Belt along Border and the participation of the national “Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar (BCIM)” and “China-IndoChina Peninsula” economic corridors as the focal points; the Economic Belt of Development and Opening Up of Lancang River and Economic Belt of Internal Opening Up and Cooperation of Jinsha River as the key components and; six urban agglomerations as the main form for the purpose of accelerating the establishment of the spatial pattern of Yunnan’s economic and social development “One core, one circle, two corridors, three belts and six agglomerations ”. A new provincial development pattern, together with the differential development of cities and prefectures, will help extend the space for investment.

Kunming City, honored “Spring City”, is the center of politics, economy, culture, science and technology, social undertaking development, traffic and communications of Yunnan Province. It is also a significant central, tourist, commercial and trade city in Western China. Kunming, located in the middle part of Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, is the core of Central Yunnan Urban Agglomeration and the center of the “5-hour Aviation Circle to Asia”, as well as one of national Class I logistics park distribution cities. Kunming enjoys an annual average temperature of 15.1 °C and is free from severely chilly winter and intensely hot summer. It is in spring all along with blossoms everywhere. Kunming is a world-famous spring city and also a destination for escaping cold and hot weather.

昭通市

昭通市位于云南省东北部、金沙江下游右岸，与四川、贵州接壤，处于云贵川三省结合部，为昆明、成都、贵阳、重庆等中心城市辐射的交汇地带，素有"咽喉西蜀、锁钥南滇”、"云南北大门”之称。已初步形成公路、铁路、机场、水运在内的立体交通网络体系。昭通市辖1区10县，国土面积2.3万平方公里，人口583万人。2015年实现生产总值709.2亿元。
Zhaotong City, located in Northeastern Yunnan, off the right bank of Jinsha River, bordering on Sichuan and Guizhou and at the joint part of Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan, is the convergence zone of Kunming, Chengdu, Guiyang and Chongqing and other central cities. It has been known as “the lock of South Yunnan and the throat of West Shu (nowadays Sichuan)” and the “north gate of Yunnan”. It enjoys an elementary four-dimensional traffic network system of highway, railway, airport and water transport. Zhaotong has 1 district and 10 counties under its jurisdiction with a land area of 23,000 km² and a population of 5.83 million. In 2015, its total output value reached RMB 70.92 billion.

Resource environment: Zhaotong enjoys huge reserves of water energy. The total installed power of three huge hydropower stations, or Xiluodu, Xiangjiaba, and Baihetan, along downstream Jinsha River exceeds 34 million KW. It has rich mineral resources and is the largest location of lignite in the south of China, as well as one of the five pyrite mining areas in China. It abounds with biological resources and is the largest high-quality apple base in the south of China. The total planting area and output of three apple production areas, with the Zhaolu high-quality late-maturing apple as the representative, respectively occupy more than 70% of those of Yunnan. It is also the core region of the highest-quality wide gastrodia elata in China and the geographical indication location of gastrodia elata. In addition, it is a location which is the most suitable for planting potatoes and amorphophallus albus and has the greatest planting areas in China.

Qujing City, a prefecture-level city in Eastern Yunnan, has been known as "the throat of Yunnan". 玉溪市
Yuxi City

玉溪市位于云南省中部，总面积15285平方千米，地势西北高，东南低，地形复杂，山地、峡谷、高原、盆地交错分布。经济总量在全省排名第三，素有"三乡”美誉——聂耳故乡、云烟之乡、花灯之乡。
Yuxi City, located in the middle part of Yunnan Province, covers an area of 15,285 km². It exhibits high elevation in the northwest and low elevation in the southeast. It is characterized by complex topography, i.e., mountains, gorges, plateaus and basin interlace. The economic aggregate of Yuxi ranks the third in Yunnan. It has been known as “the hometown of three matters” – Nie Er (famous Chinese musician), Yunyan (a cigarette brand) and festival lantern.

Three out of nine plateau lakes in Yunnan are located in Yuxi where Fuxian Lake is the largest deep freshwater lake in China. Baoshan City

保山市，古称永昌，是云南省下辖地级市，位于云南省西南部，毗邻缅甸，国境线长167.78公里。辖隆阳区、施甸县、腾冲县、龙陵县、昌宁县一区四县，有世居少数民族13种，有华侨、侨眷、归侨28.9万人，是云南省主要的侨乡。2015年GDP总量552亿元，增长9.72%。
Baoshan City, anciently called Yongchang, is a prefecture-level city and located in the southwest of Yunnan Province. It borders on Myanmar and involves a boundary line of 167.78 km. It has Longyang District, Shidian County, Tengchong County, Longling County and Changning County under its jurisdiction. There are 13 native minor ethnic groups and 289,000 overseas Chinese, their relatives and returned overseas Chinese. It is a major hometown of overseas Chinese in Yunnan. In 2015, its GDP reached RMB 55.2 billion, increasing by 9.72%.

保山是中外著名的"南方丝绸之路”的重要驿站，也是第二次世界大战中"史迪威公路”即滇缅公路的要道。
